Michael "Mick" Walters, 64, 1467 Pike St., Wabash, died at 6 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2005, at his home.


He was born on Oct. 8, 1940, in Muncie, the son of Charles Edward and Mary (Jeffers) Walters.


He married Betty Lou Spears on Aug. 22, 1959. She survives.


Also surviving is a son, Keith A. (Cathy) Walters, Wabash; a daughter, Shelly (Ron) Vail Walters, Camby; three grandchildren, Rachel, Kayla and Stephanie Walters, all of Wabash; two step-grandchildren, Theresa and Jenny; and two step-great-grandchildren, Brandon and Beau.


He was preceded in death by two brothers.


Mr. Walters owned the South Wabash Trade Co. and the Bridge View Inn Cafe.   He retired from the Wabash Police Department after 20 years of service in 1988. He started his career of law enforcement as a sheriff deputy.

Mr. Walters attended the Roann Brethren Church, Roann, and Wabash Friends Church. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Wabash; the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association; the Wabash Moose Lodge, A life member of the American Mountain Man Association and the National Rifle Association. He graduated from lagro High School in 1957.

Burial will be in Friends Cemetery. David Phillips will officiate.
